I was very surprised but excited to hear that a new edition of Cry Havoc, possibly my favourite hex and counter game, is being published soon by Footsore Miniatures as a Kickstarter. It's a simple repeat of the original but with updated graphics and maps that are green rather than bright yellow, so I don't really need to get a copy as I have the original. However, I will probably do so anyway, as I am a big fan of the game, as is my son (although he prefers Samurai Blades). It's launching in a few days, so keep an eye out!

Thank you for posting about this as I was unaware of the new publisher and Kickstarter. This really is a great game.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of my all time favourites
DeleteThere's a large community of fans of this game and the later versions with several newer games produced based on the Normans, etc (https://historicone.com/en/pages/cry-havoc-fan) as well as good fan sites with lots of downloadables.
ReplyDeleteThe kickstarter has kicked up a lot of controversy because of the decision to make the map green instead of the yellow of the originals and all subsequent maps, which seems to have put many people off the KS
I never really understood why the original maps were bright yellow. I think green makes more sense at the expense of matching the old maps.
DeleteIf only someone wodul also re-release the 20mm medieval figures to go with it - modelled to look like the figures in the artwork.
ReplyDeleteI think Footsore might be planning something along those lines
DeleteThe yellow colouring never made sense to me so I would welcome the change. However what is more important to me is my memory that the text and numbers on the counters were tiny….I can’t see a sample of the proposed counters so don’t know if they have “improved” that or not. Bearing in mind I sold my copies 30 or so years ago, and my eyesight has certainly not improved - that is the most important consideration for me!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I still have my original copy but will get the updated version just because!
