I'm going to try to get these four Raiden Miniatures P47D 'Jugs' painted up between now and the end of the weekend, ready for the Bag the Hun game at the cub on the 26th. This might be a bit of a tall order as I'm stupidly busy over the week and especially in the evenings, when I normally get the time to sit down and do something for myself. Anyway, I'll do my best and hope to have them completed in time for the game. It will be an overall bare metal finish with the dazzle panel along the top of the fuselage and a splash of colour for the cowling and tail planes, so nothing too arduous until it gets to the decals which will probably be a bit of a fiddle.
Welcome to my blog. I have upwards of 100 projects in various stages of incompletion or total abandonment, so you may well find something of interest if you rummage about a bit. I concentrate on solo air and naval wargaming but other 'skirmishy' things quite often pop up out of nowhere, only to disappear again after something else grabs my attention. I even finish the occasional project now and again!

Hi Jim, can I ask you about your bases? (I've found your blog and am using it for inspiration to start 1:300 Bag the Hun.) You've previously given a tutorial on making your own bases, but these look purchased - you mentioned Magister Militum in a previous post, but these don't seem to be on their website.
ReplyDeleteNo problem.
ReplyDeleteThese are the last of my Raiden Miniatures bases that used to be available from Magister Militum but have now been discontinued.
I need some more so have thought about emailing MM to see if they can cast up some more.
The alternative is to order them from the US at $7 for six plus postage, which seems a bit drastic.
I've also thought about casting my own but will probably just make some out of laser cut mdf bases?
Here's a link to the US supplier, I-94 Enterprises:

Ah thanks - if they're better/easier than DIY bases, then I'd buy some too if MM will only make them based on volume - I'll ask them at Derby Worlds too as I wanted to get some Raiden Battle of Britain aircraft, but they seem to only stock obscure and Desert stuff - not sure why....
ReplyDeleteBe interested to know what they say. I need quite a few myself. I suspect they are running down their stock??
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting as they are supposedly the sole UK supplier...how are they compared with the Museum Miniatures line?
ReplyDeleteThey are a bit chunkier but are nicely sculpted, with more surface detail. I prefer the Museum Miniatures planes but they often have casting defects that need filling. Swings and roundabouts!
