Ironclads Away!

It's absolutely sweltering here tonight so I've given up any efforts to paint anything this evening as it would be a race against time, or at least a race against drying up paint.

I've also decided to shelve the Hannover as I don't think I'll have the time to do it justice. I'll use my collection of Fokker DVII's instead, assuming I fly for the Germans not the British.

Finally, I've been planning the paint scheme for the 1/2400th scale ironclads, based partly on the approach I took with the larger Skytrex versions. It will have to be adjusted for scale but I think it'll work if I fiddle around a bit:

Undercoat Matt Black

Drybrush hull Foundry Charcoal Black (2 stage)

Paint decks Foundry Boneyard (2 stage)

Paint Masts Foundry Base Sand (2 stage)

Wash masts GW Gryphon Sepia Ink

Paint Sails Foundry Canvas (2 stage)

Paint boot-topping, boats, hatches etc Foundry White

After that it's a bit of detailing and perhaps another wash but I'll have to see how the rest goes before I decide the final painting check list.

The sea bases will probably get the Foundry Sky Blue treatment but I'm tempted to go for something in a grey/ green tone, given the fact they'll be operating in the sunny English Channel and North Sea.

  1. I've found GW Shadow Grey a really useful colour for sea bases.
