SAGA Summer [9]

I have to say that I'm disappointed with the way these turned out today, after the wash in Quick Shade Strong Tone. I may have made the wrong decision and perhaps should have gone for the Soft Tone option but either way, they ended up a bit slurred and blurred. I'm sure I could have done a better job using layering and shading but that's the trade off for a relatively quick finish.

The Little Big Man decals have saved the day to a degree, adding a bit of flash to an otherwise average finish. They really are a joy to use and a very effective way to make a bit of a visual impact. The horses are half way there but need a wash and brush up to be finished. I'm hoping to get them done tomorrow after work, so that I can wrap the basing up by the end of the week.

  1. Army Painter has a habit of obliterating much of the finer details and dulling/muddying the brighter colours which can be a bit disheartening. I would thin it down a bit if it's too gloopy and I would recommend the dark tone on the chainmail, greens and blues - the strong on browns, furs and leathers and either on reds :) The Soft tone is the mildest but you might as well ink and apply a normal varnish for all the difference it makes.

  2. They look alright to me, but I'm only seeing photo's. Live with them for a month or two and see if it still bothers you :-)

  3. I think they look perfectly serviceable...and heck, maybe after doing battle for a couple years, they may need a refit ;-)

  4. I'm not a great fan of that AP dip stuff but yours don't look that bad me thinks. As Paul said I'd wait a month or two before deciding what to do.
