Civil War Ironclads

I've just finished reading this introduction to the subject of coastal and riverine ironclads of the American Civil War, having downloaded a digital copy for the vast sum of £2.75. It didn't look very promising but actually provided a really comprehensive but concise overview of the different types of Union and Confederate ironclads and tinclads developed over the course of the war. 

As such, it is a very handy wargamers guide and includes plenty of useful information in the form of line drawings, plans and notes. There are also several ironclad actions described in some detail, which provide a good basis for simple scenario development, although these have no doubt been played out to the death already. It's all stirring stuff and well written too, despite being originally published way back in 1962.

I really enjoyed reading through this little book and thought it was well worth the minimal outlay, especially for a non-expert like myself. It has definitely given me some ideas about the direction to take in 1/600th scale. I have plenty of Peter Pig and a few Thoroughbred models already but these were acquired without much thought as to what to actually do with them, so now I have a much better idea.
