Strategic Targets WIP

I have had one of those disjointed days today, if you know what I mean? I have had a go at scratch building a couple of larger 'strategic' targets for my Football War project, which is a shift away from the ground target format in the Wings at War rules but should be a bit more interesting than just a few small 30mm round tactical ground units.

In the 1969 conflict between El Salvador and Honduras, both sides made offensive bombing raids on their enemies' infrastructure including airports and an oil refinery. As a result, I have made one of each using laser cut hedgerow templates from ERM, off cuts of sprue, those little mdf bits that are left over from the laser cut frames, some 1/72nd scale model tank fuel barrels, plastic bases and some toothpaste tube lids for the oil tanks.

  1. I need to add a few more widgets yet including a control tower for the airport but they are coming along OK so far.

  2. Those are absolutely marvellous! I'm going to pinch the idea for some Epic 40K terrain. I especially like the clever use of the sprue for pipeline.

  3. I've now added some finishing touches including some pipelines, doors to the hangers and a control tower from some plastruct and a panel pin. I just need to texture the bases then I can start painting.

  4. I say old chap, surely every bombing raid is offensive?!?

    I'll get my coat ...

  5. I love the versatility of old bits of sprue - Firewood in 28mm, Pipelines in 2-15mm! Lovely scratchbuilding!
