I've just quickly read this new(ish) book on the Battle of Tsushima to refresh my pre-dreadnought project ideas, although in typical Osprey fashion it includes an overview of the whole Russo Japanese naval war. It's not bad at all, despite the strange cover art and limited scope for a detailed historical account. It's not as good as the two volume coverage in the MMP series by Piotr Olender, both of which are excellent from a wargaming perspective, but it's useful as a basic overview, with some good maps and illustrations.
just received my 2 volumes by Olender...also have Russian Battleship v Japanese Battleship , Yellow Sea and Japanese Navy Vessels by Osprey....My Tumbling Dice Japanese starter set based and undercoated ...Fuji Painted these are great fun , what rules are you using I have the Tsushima set
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese Navy Vessels book is very good. I wonder why there isn't a corresponding one for the Russians?
ReplyDeleteI'm planning to use the Broadside and Salvo fast play rules that are included in the White Bear Red Sun campaign rules. They are similar to Broadside and Ram which I've used for my ironclad games.
Will look into those rules, the Russian book from Osprey is due in October 19 I believe as I had the same thought!
DeleteThat's worth getting hold of..thanks for the news.
