1/6000 Warships for the Denmark Straits

Prinz Eugen and Bismarck

Prince of Wales and Hood

Clear for Action!

I've done a quick paint job on the Bismarck, Prinz Eugen, Prince of Wales and Hood for the Denmark Straits game that I'll be playing at the end of the week. These are Hallmark models and fantastically detailed for their diminutive size and scale. They also paint up really quickly with a wash and drybrush approach, followed by some blocking and highlighting. I suppose I could paint tiny swastika flags on the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, but life is too short. They have been magnet based for ease of storage.

They also have spaces for labels on the sea bases but they are so small it would be difficult to print them to fit, so I may well just use them for ensigns or just leave them blank. I have the relevant ships for the River Plate as well, so might paint them up too. In the meantime, I'm looking at Battleship Command by Rory Crabb or possibly Naval Thunder as sets of rules for the Denmark Strait game, rather than Victory at Sea, which I'll keep as a fall back.

  1. I use Naval Thunder for most of my WWII major ship battles.

  2. Yes, they are looking like the rules that I'm going to focus on too. Straightforward, sensible and with great support.

  3. Nice work on those, I have this set of ships at 1/3000

Good choice on Naval Thunder, they allow a game to be played without needing a tennis court sized playing area.

  4. My usual scale for WW2 is 1/3000 but I just happened to have these knocking about, so thought I'd make use of them.

I'm definitely liking what I've read in Naval Thunder...it just seems to make sense without being too simplistic.

  5. These are good quality and I'm looking for someone who may do a large commission. I have more money than time. Please let me know. Thanks!
