Here's the completed scratch built model of the USS Lafeyette in 1/2400th scale. I made a couple of mistakes, specifically the shape of the hull and the width of the paddle boxes, but it's close enough to the real thing I think. I also struggled with the conical base for the pilot house. It's only slightly over length but pretty much spot on in the beam. I really want to make another Union river ironclad now, perhaps the Indianola or Tuscumbia, but it would probably make more sense to do two of three Cairo class boats as they are fairly simple compared to the Lafeyette.
I would think that everything is fairly simple compared to the Lafayette! Holy Cow! That is one crazy boat
