Miniature Maritime Middle Ages

I noticed that Paul at Tumbling Dice has just expanded his 1/2400th scale ancient and medieval range to include Japanese, Korean and Chinese warships. While I am sorely tempted to have a go at some Sengoku period naval wargaming, it did remind me of Lord of the Sea, the medieval naval rules by Long Face Games.

So, to cut a long story short, I emailed Paul to ask if he had any plans to add some European medieval ships to his range. He replied to confirm that there will be a whole new set of later medieval ships for the Hundred Years War and Crusades as well as a range of Byzantine ships, with the masters already finished and ready to go.

This is great news, as it means I can finally get round to playing some fleet sized actions, for which the rules are designed, using multiple based ships for which 1/12400th scale is ideal. They should be available at some point in the summer, so I'll have to wait a little bit longer, but it's definitely a project to think about in the meanwhile.

  1. I will have to keep an eye out for these. It is an era of naval warfare that I know very little about. The scale may be a little on the small size but I will only really know when I see them first hand - whenever shows are up and running again!

    1. They will be pretty small but then you do get a good mass battle effect...and they're relatively cheap.

    1. It's a bit unexpected but nice to see some more new models in 1/2400th

  4. Hmm... I'm deep into the First Barons War of 1215-17, and there were a couple of naval actions that determined the fate of the war. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Crusades range, which should suit just fine. Ta for the heads up.

  5. There are also the Outpost range of medieval ships in 1/1200 I think.
