New Modern Naval Project - Chile vs Peru

Chilean Navy

Peruvian Navy

Here's the next modern project for use with Naval Command, a 'What If?' regional war between Chile and Peru at some point in the early 2000's. This would never have happened in reality but I thought it would be an unusual and interesting take on the original War of the Pacific c1879, for which I already have the ironclads and steam warships in 1/2400th scale. It's actually a bit odd to see all of the iconic names popping up again for the Peruvian and Chilean warships including the Almirante Cochrane, Blanco Encalada and Capitan Prat, to name just a few.

The Chileans are by far the stronger and more modern navy but the Peruvians do have a numerical advantage in submarines, so it will be interesting to see how they stand up against the Chilean surface fleet. The Peruvians also have a relatively effective air force, even though it is a bit less up to date than the opposition. I'll put these models to one side for this month but plan to pick up this project later in the Summer, as it won't take long to paint the ships and aircraft ready for some solo naval wargaming.

  1. That Almirante Grau cruiser is quite interesting... six 152mm guns and a light armor belt certainly will play differently than a more modern ship.

  2. It was retired in 2017 so I'll have to rewind the campaign clock to around 2010 or so, in order to keep it in the game.

  3. Looks like it will be a interesting fight. Your ships are 1/3000?
