Bag the Hun Khalkhin Gol Scenario C Set Up

I've got the next play test scenario for the Khalkhin Gol project set up, with an inexperienced gaggle of five 22nd IAP I-16's up against nine Ki-27's of the 1st Chutai, 11th Sentai in June 1939. This is a tough scenario for the sprog Soviet pilots as not only can they not fly in formation, so have no wingman bonus, they also have no formation bonus card. They are also suffering from fuel contamination problems, which will cause them to have engine failure on a D6 roll of 6 every time they move. On top of that, the flight leader, Lt Cherenkov, is the only regular pilot. However, they only have to shoot down one Ki-27 to achieve their objective after which they can immediately disengage and fly off any of the table edges to escape.

In contrast, the Japanese have to shoot down all of the I-16's to achieve their objective, but they do have veteran and regular pilots. They also have two of the three shotai entering the scene as bogey counters, with the third on table as bait for the Soviets at the start of the game. This makes it much harder for the Japanese to achieve their objective, as they will have to fly all over the place if they are to catch the I-16's, which will be flying independently and, if they have any sense, in lots of different directions. It's an unusual scenario and something a bit more challenging to run solo but I think it will be a pretty frenetic and exciting game nonetheless.
