From Barbarossa to Odessa

I popped into the Oxfam bookshop today on the way home from the barbers and found this softback on the air campaign on the Southern flank of the Russian Front in 1941. It's a day by day account of the campaign to capture Odessa with a wide variety of Rumanian, Hungarian, Slovakian and German aircraft involved, as well as the Soviet VVS. I had no idea that this aspect of Operation Barbarossa was so varied and interesting from an air wargaming point of view, with all sorts of unusual aircraft involved including obsolete and captured types being given a second lease of life by the minor Axis powers. It would be a brilliant focus for a Bag the Hun scenario writing project for starters!

  2. Very nice find.

Army Group South does have the widest range on factions and therefore the best set of possible scenarios for gaming the Eastern Front.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

  3. Good buy. I could only find volume 1 on Amazon, but that was £35! Seems to be well regarded too.
