I had a chat with Mark about the Parthian Army lists in Strength and Honour a while back and have been working out the composition of the army from that. The core force consists of one base of cataphracts and two of horse archers, which is what I have on the workbench at the moment more or less.
On top of this I am going to add another four bases of horse archers and possibly another one or two cataphract units, although the latter are pretty expensive in points. I don't want to unbalance the army, so the light cavalry will be the majot component of the whole force.
I also will add at least one base of infantry, probably an open order Warband base representing mountain tribal allies, which are available as an add on on the army lists and might be quite useful to hold onto high ground or flanks that are inaccessible to cavalry. There will be some skirmishers too, as they are common units in the lists and will be handy as speed bumps.
I need to get cracking with this project as the rules will be out in April and I am itching to try them out. I will also need to knock together some more terrain including hills and some settlement bases, but that's not a big problem and should be easy to do.
It will be great to see how you decide to represent the Parthians in 2mm. Have you got an idea of how you are going to represent them model wise?
ReplyDeleteI'm using the big cavalry blocks for the cataphracts and the smaller blocks and skirmishing cavalry lines for the horse archers, all Antonine Miniatures
