Strength and Honour Campaigns

I've been having a bit of a ping pong with Mark Backhouse, author of Strength and Honour and all round nice chap, about setting up a campaign based on his ideas for a campaign covering the Judaean Revolt. While there is a system for linking games together in the rule book, Mark has been working on something with more layers and depth, designed to give a more detailed approach to campaigning using the Strength and Honour mechanics for the actual battles.

The key thing here, I think, is to realize that this has a scope far greater than your conventional wargaming campaign systems, more full-scale invasion than a series of localized battles between relatively small forces. I have a couple of possible historical campaign foci to start with, the first the Marian Campaign in Numidia c107-105BC and the second the campaigns of Agricola in the North of Britain c79-84AD, but even then I think I may be thinking inside too small a box?

I have a fellow club player (Hi Gary!) who is keen to give this a go, so will be giving it some more thought and quite probably basing up a new army for the campaign. It's all a bit sketchy at the moment but, with Mark's sage advice and a look at his campaign system to consolidate the ideas, I'm sure it will be a very interesting project with lots of scope for some excellent games. I do like a bit of campaign narrative too, so I'm determined that will be a feature whatever we end up doing in the end.
