Third Time Lucky?

I've been looking for an assembly and basing project for the summer holidays for a while, something a bit different but not too heavy. The 1/56th scale tanks I bought yesterday have reignited the prospect of a Chain of Command project, something I've had a shot at twice before but failed to get beyond the undercoating stage. The first attempt was a Japanese platoon with all the whistles and bells, but this bogged down when I realised it involved loads of figures, way more than I wanted to paint. The second attempt was a British platoon for Normandy, which was much more compact but fizzled out as it's not really that interesting and required loads of terrain I don't have to be practical.

Now, I am definitely thinking of rebooting Chain of Command but this time for North Africa, making good use of the Perry Miniatures Eighth Army figures, weapons and vehicles I gathered together for Malaya / Burma. I've also been playing around with the idea of a US infantry platoon for Tunisia, again using Perry Miniatures plastics, but also with some of the tanks I bought to use for Burma. It's all a bit sketchy at the moment and may not even happen, but it's a good project for the summer holidays, albeit one that will give me even more unpainted figures to finish!
