A few weeks ago I took down the blog roll of my favourite blogs as it was way too long and had lost some functionality, which prevented me from editing it. It's now back up but trimmed down, with about half the blogs than before, many being removed as they were effectively dead. It makes you wonder if blogging is dying out, given the large number of blogs that hadn't seen a post in months or even years. I think Facebook and other platforms have sucked all of the oxygen out of blogging over the last few years, which is a real shame as there were some excellent, inspirational examples out there that have fizzled out.
I think that you are right about Facebook. I do purge my blog list every ow and then, though recently, it has actually bee growing.
ReplyDeleteThat's my problem too!
DeleteI did the same to my blog roll a while back. Lots of Blogs are dead now,
ReplyDeleteIt's a real shame that so many seem to have run out of steam.
ReplyDeleteVery true, I did some cleanup around end-summer…there’s definitely more platforms to access . But I also think bloggers are facing hurdles, certainly the case on Blogger…bots, lost comments, or inability to leave comments amongst some.
ReplyDeleteI've found a few functions don't work well or at all, which can be frustrating.
DeleteThere is a certain resurgence occuring as it becomes clear that social media blackholes your old posts. It may be down to ages of certain gamers as well, I know my time/effort is sucked up by my children 3&6. Presumably it gets better...
ReplyDeleteMine are 21, 18 and 17...it gets better but they get more expensive as they get older too!
DeleteIt is indeed disappointing that the number of active blogs has decreased over recent years. I am however hoping that those that remain are well supported by their readers. Posting regularly shows real commitment by their owners and the best way to show support to them is to visit and provide feedback.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. One of the reasons I've reinstated the blog roll is to make more of an effort to post on other blogs.
DeleteI look at my blog from last year and think "86 posts, that was quite good", then I look at yours and see 497 posts... I must work harder!
