2mm Royalist Army Bases

I spent a couple of hours this afternoon freezing my nuts off in the garage, so that I could texture the bases on the 2mm Cornish Royalist regiments. This is my least favourite task, as it's fiddly but also messy, requiring quite a lot of attention to detail for little obvious result. The texturing is an evil looking concoction of PVA, filler, acrylic paste and sand, which I mix up in a batch for each job. I made a bit too much this time, so I've sealed it up in an airtight container to see if it stays malleable. If it does, I'll have a crack at doing the Parliamentarian army tomorrow, so that I don't have to texture the bases later on.

  1. Looks good so far. When I mix up my base texture paste I also include some acrylic paint (whitish for my Great Northern War minis, but otherwise greenish or sandy/yellowish depending on the terrain where the army is expected to fight). FWIW I invariably also seem to mix up too much texture paste each time - even though I remember I made too much last time too. C’est la vie, I suppose.
    Cheers,

  2. Yes, I've thought of doing that but, as I spray the whole lot in a brown basecoat it seems to avoid the white peaking through. I think it helps that I mix in acrylic paste as that seems to seal the surface and stops chipping or rubbing off once painted. I'd love to see your Great Northern War armies BTW.
