I say Throckmorton...Tally Ho!

I set up a short game of Saurian Safari this morning for the kids while the wife was out taking tea with her lady friends. Two intrepid big game hunters, Algernon Throckmorton Esq. and Sir Neville Ponsonby-Smythe, were out to bag some exotic Jurassic specimens for the trophy room, armed respectively with a .500 Buffalo Gun and a Browning Automatic Rifle.

An intial encounter with an Apatosaurus ended in a stampede by the wounded beast and the narrow escape of both gentlemen from an untimely squishing. After catching their breath, the two hunters emerged into a jungle clearing to find a pair of hungry Allosauri waiting in ambush. A slug from the Buffalo gun bounced off the skull of one of the beasts but it went down after a burst of automatic fire from the BAR.

The second monster then proceeded to charge toward the plucky explorers, only to be felled by a heavy burst of fire from Ponsonby-Smythe's rather unsporting light automatic. This was fortunate for Throckmorton who was still fumbling in his ammo pouch for a .500 shell for his unloaded gun. However, the Browning's magazine was now very low on rounds, after such sustained full automatic fire.

Before they had time for a celebratory snifter, a Stegosaurus lumbered into sight on the far side of the clearing and was immediately spotted by Throckmorton, who pointed out the armoured leviathan to his chum. A careful aimed shot by the Buffalo gun knocked the creature down and with a single shot from the BAR it was quickly dispatched.

As it was time for tiffin, the two hunters decided to head back to the waiting steam launch and return to camp. It was a pretty good bag for a quick lost safari outing but, unfortunately, the use of the automatic weaponry negated the score for Ponsonby-Smythe, who had otherwise done most of the actual shooting.

I didn't have my quick reference sheet with me so the gameplay was a bit clunky to start with but things picked up as we went along. I really should run another game at the club sometime, espcially now I have plenty of figures to use from the Back of Beyond expedition. The terrain needs a bit of attention though, as it's definately seen better days.
