1/2400th Rochambeau Scratchbuild Finished

I managed to finish the scratch built and model bashed ironclad Rochambeau this morning, adding the masts from a chopped up ironclad and various deck details from plastic strip and card. The gun ports are not correct and over scale but, from a distance they give the right impression, although I may sand them down a bit to make them stick out less.

I also left off the ship's boats, as they would have been too fiddly and would have been stripped and towed in battle anyway. There are one too many spars on the foremast as well but I couldn't be bothered to carve off the furled lower sail set, so it will have to do. I don't think anyone will notice?

I'm quite pleased with the end result and was surprised that it wasn't that difficult to achieve, once the hull shape was sculpted and the casemate attached. The Rochambeau will now be undercoated and added to my Broadside and Ram channel squadron.

  2. Nicely done. I'd leave the gun ports as they are. They may be overscale but they "look" right, if you know what I mean :)

  6. Thanks chaps,

I gave the gunports a light whisk with an emery board before I undercoated the model, and I think it just made them look a little less 'sticky outy'

  7. Came out looking well I think. No one will ever notice the small inaccuracies so don’t let it bother you in the slightest. 😀
