The opposition for the Lard Day scenario will be II/JG2 which is the most likely unit to be involved, given the appearance of Bf109's and the location at the mouth of the Seine. In March 1942, II/JG2 was based at Beaumont le Roger and was re-equipping with Fw-190A2's but was still flying the Bf-109F4 as well. This means that I should field twelve Bf-109's for the scenario but could also swap out four of them for Fw-190A2's, which would be an interesting twist to the game.
I have already converted four Museum Miniatures trop filter Bf-109F's and have eight Bf-109G's that I can reverse engineer into Franks by cutting off the cannon pods and blisters, which is an easier job than removing the air filters. I also have already converted four Museum Miniatures Fw-190A8's into Fw-190A2's by removing the cannon housings from the cowlings, but will probably convert another four for other scenarios, so that I can re-use them in other games.
I have no idea about pilot ratings or identities yet but they will most probably be a bit more experienced than the RAF, give or take some characters and flight leaders. I don't think there will be any Top Aces for the Luftwaffe, although I may slip in a Junior Ace, otherwise they will be too much of a struggle for the RAF to deal with. They didn't manage to shoot down any of the Spitfires in the dogfight either, so they can't have been that formidable on the day.
Those Museum Miniature castings look very clean - do you have to clean them up much or do they come like that? Also, I thought they did an F-4 so what is the conversion work?
ReplyDeleteThey do need a bit of fIslington and sanding but they are nice. The ones in the photo are F4's but they only do the tropical filter version, so you have to cut that off, which is a pain. The Gustav is the same basic model but is easier to convert back to an F4, as you only need to remove the gun pods and blisters. And I already have some too.
