Japanese pontoon bridge across the river |
This is a strafing scenario, with a squadron of cannon armed I-16P Type 17 fighters of the 22nd IAP attacking a pontoon bridge across the Khalka River at Bain Tsagan during the Japanese offensive on 3rd July 1939. The Size 2, three hex long pontoon bridge is protected by a ten hex square flak zone, using the simple rules for flak (15.5), and by a squadron of Ki-27's of the 2nd Chutai, 11th Sentai. The objective of the Soviets is to stop Japanese reinforcements crossing the bridge by inflicting at least 50% damage, the bridge has a Strength Rating of 12, or by sinking the pontoon boats to destroy the bridge with 100% damage. The Japanese have to stop this happening by shooting down the I-16's, either with AA or by the Ki-27's of the 11th Sentai. The flak zone extends up to ALT 2 and will hit any formation crossing through it on a D6 roll of 10-12, as it is pretty intense, although only one aircraft in each formation will actually be hit. I'll need to play test this scenario thoroughly to make sure it works.
