French 74 Anchor

We're off home tomorrow so here's a holiday snap of possible interest, if you are a naval wargaming enthusiast perhaps? This is the anchor from a French 74 recovered by a trawler in 2004 and remounted for display in a local village. As you can see, it's absolutely massive and really makes you think about the manpower required to lift the thing, let alone secure it. Very impressive!

  1. That's why it takes a large part of the crew a lot of time and effort using a giant capstan - the reason why when in a hurry they would 'cut and run'.
