1/600th USS Monitor vs CSS Virginia

I had another rummage in my 1/600th ACW naval lead pile today and found the Thoroughbred Miniatures twin pack of the USS Monitor and CSS Merrimac, which I knew I had somewhere and which I've decided will be the next project for the workbench. At the moment, I'm painting the 1/2400th scale Tumbling Dice US monitors for the North Atlantic Squadron but, once they're out of the way, I can move on to the larger ironclad models. This will give me two ironclads that I can pit against each other to try out the Dahlgren and Columbiad rules, rather than just the USS Monitor as originally planned. Brilliant!

  1. Always thought the Thoroughbred models looked very attractive, can't wait to see how they paint up and perhaps how big they look - I know I can calculate from the scale but somehow seeing them in the hand is different or maybe it's just me that's different...
