Bedriacum Strength and Honour Game

A very good game of Strength and Honour at the club last night, with Gary playing as Vitellus and myself as Vespasian using the Bedriacum scenario from the rulebook. The game was fought mainly at night which made command and control a challenge but also made the first turns really interesting, with both sides bumping into each other in the dark. When the sun did come up it was a full on frontal clash between the two, quite evenly matched forces but in the end Vespasian managed to rout a legion and an auxiliary cavalry ala, although just missing out on capturing an eagle. I called homunculus est when Gary looked like he had enough setback cards to tip him over the edge, with the total being twenty five, seven points more than his break point. I was on thirteen, so only five away from losing the battle, which shows how close the game was in the end. It was a really fast paced and dynamic action, with lots of tense moments and a good random element to make things less predictable, so spot on for an evening of enjoyable wargaming. Gary also brought his excellent terrain and provided all the bits and bobs, so all I needed was my army and the rules, which saved a lot of lifting and shifting. I'm looking forward to the next game which may even feature a Numidian army and some home made desert terrain, if I get my act together!

  1. Now that’s what I call MASS on the tabletop - lots of eye candy playing to the strengths of 2mm - looks like it was a great game !

  2. It's a brilliant scale for this sort of thing and so easy to set up.
