The latest scenario I'm working on for my Franco-Italian not yet WW2 project is an escort mission for a French destroyer flotilla, very loosely based on the sinking of the Ark Royal in 1941. In this scenario, the French aircraft carrier Bearn has been torpedoed by an Italian submarine, while returning from a convoy escort sortie to her base at Toulon. The submarine has been sunk by the escorting destroyers but the Bearn has heavy damage and is listing badly, making it impossible for her to launch her aircraft for CAP.
The destroyers must escort the limping flat top within range of land-based air cover and to a position where a relief force of heavy and light cruisers will make a rendezvous. The Italians are unaware that the Bearn has been hit but have a pair of light cruisers on patrol in the area which, spotting a cloud of oily smoke on the horizon, have raced to the scene in the hope of finding a convoy to attack. They are surprised to spot the carrier and her escort instead!
I'll work this up into something more detailed later today.
