The other set of rules I'm thinking of using with the Plastic Soldier Company figures and vehicles is I Ain't Been Shot Mum. This was my top option for the Breakout into Brittany project but I'm now also considering it for the 5th DCLI in Normandy and beyond.
The box sets of British infantry and heavy weapons I've just acquired are enough for a full company in IABSM, unlike my Peter Pig figures, so it makes a lot of sense, especially if I speed paint the hundred or so figures required. I can then add the support units as I go along.
The only issue is the need to paint up the opposition, but I have enough plastic Battlefront German figures, guns and vehicles to make this feasible. I'll take a look at the rule book and do some number crunching but this could be a nice summer project this year, if I get myself organized?
Hi Jim,
ReplyDeleteIt's a while since I chipped in to a post because the last year has been a bit frantic, so wargames activities have been a bit squeezed. But I just had to say that this project, among your many, looks like one that I'll be following for sure. Especially as I have a similar project in mind, though I'm thinking of going down the 1/72nd scale route with mine.
I am also intrigued to see that you've chosen IABSM as your rules for the game. I remember that you had previously selected FiveCore Company Command for your Indo China project. As I'm a big fan and user of FiveCore (all sets) I'm intrigued and keen to know why you'll be switching to IABSM for this game. I have very little knowledge and no experience of that system so I'll definitely be interested to hear how they work out for you and how the two sets compare.
Best regards,
Chris
IABSM was my original choice for the company level WW2 project but it was one of those things that I never got round to starting, mainly as I was wavering between platoon and company level approaches, especially for the 5th DCLI. I still haven't made up my mind to be fair.
