I've finally given up on TMP, having just seen how a week of supporting member only posting seemed to restore a semblance of clarity to the site, only to be demolished by an avalanche of Tango related bumpf once the restrictions were lifted. I know Tango does post some interesting stuff now and again but I've had enough to be honest. I also have an increasing intolerance of the puerile banter and alt-right political stance of some other regular contributors. Anyway, I've now decided to switch off and do something more interesting instead, so will be tuning in to the Wargames Website from now on, which is a far more civilised place to be. Sorry TMP.

I haven't been to TMP in years. Thanks for reminding me why.

Don't blame you. Ra rely use TMP any more
ReplyDeleteI pop in from time to time to catch up on items of direct interest, see if anyone is offering something good for sale or trade, that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteOnly reason I still have supporting membership is that I posted some poll topics over a year ago and they just came through with the attached extension of membership.
I never go into the Lounge any more. It certainly isn't what it used to be.
After reading some of the comments concerning TMP some years ago I decided not to join. From what I've heard lately I think you and I are well out of it.
ReplyDeleteI believe the term "exodus" is now appropriate :-)
ReplyDeleteI gave up on that site a long time ago for the very same reason. And specifically that same user is the reason I never became a supporting paying member. It's fairly likely that TMP has lost more than it's gained because of people like that. But hey, perhaps that's the editor's intent. It's a demographic, just a different one.
ReplyDeleteIt was also difficult for me to use it because the nightly outages are during the evening in my timezone. Not seen database software have to have nightly outages since the 80s. Or Bulletin Boards shutting down and locking out dial-in users so that they could process mail. haha.
You'll be in good company at WWS :)
ReplyDeleteThanks dude, TWW is richer for you being there.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies to Jim and feel free to delete this if you think it is inappropriate for your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is worse now than it ever was before. There are still a few good posts now and again, but the forced drama and unwillingness to even admit problems exist made it terminal a long time ago.
Not predicting immanent doom. But more advertisers are cutting back or leaving. When businesses can get five times the hits from their own Facebook page (cost = 0, chance of a timed advert missing publication = 0) the marginal gain from a presence there will become more apparent. Bill also believes that he can lose long-standing members who have been solid contributors and replace them 1:1 with new members. The problem he won't admit is a dilution of expertise. Look at the laundry list of those "ZZZ" bubbles of inactive accounts and see what "names" you recognize. Realize that folks Locked out don't appear that way, so there are even more. I think Frothers has a recent tally of the "great unwashed unwelcomed" from TMP.
I think I have the distinction of getting kicked out of the the Blue fez and off TMP for telling the truth in both cases, despite what Bill posts after my departure. He's also made a point of bragging to me that all of my posts to the front pages have been deleted. Juvenile revenge that means nothing? Or was the "sedition" of the truth more than he could allow to remain on his page?
I have a lot more but won't "wallpaper" someone else's blog with specifics of TMP dirty laundry. My email is no secret, terrement@aol.com if anyone wants to waste their time learning...far better spent at blogs, YouTube wargaming sites, LAF, TWW and elsewhere.
Fire away!
ReplyDeleteYour post here has triggered a surge of activity on my own 'Bye Bye TMP' blog post from last year*. It seems to be a right of passage for bloggers these days :)
ReplyDelete*Activity via Frothers, of course, who track this kind of stuff for our entertainment.
I saw they had a list of banned members from the last debacle some 40 strong
DeleteBlimey!
ReplyDeleteI am with you. I still visit TMP because of the good information in the archives from years back, but the site has turned into a joke. I have been suspended for a few days because of a posting the editor did not, textually, understand. I am looking forward being more active on LAF and TWW, which are much better sites these days.
