I've got a very old but perfectly serviceable felt hex cloth from Hotz Mats that is at least twenty years old, which I used for Bag the Hun Lard Day games last year, but it's definitely seen better days. I am planning to replace it with something a bit more flash, so have decided to get another sea mat from Tiny Wargames, this time with a 40mm hex pattern overprinted for aerial wargaming. I have the standard 6' x 4' sea mat already for my naval gaming and it's excellent, so I'm sure a hex patterned version will be more than good enough for the Lard event.
However, I've sent an email to Tiny Wargames to see if they could customise the sea mat with a scattering of some clouds, much like their other air wargaming hex mats, in order to make it a little more visually interesting. I'm hoping this will be an easy adaptation for them to design, as it's probably just a bit of digital editing and layering, so I may even be able to get hold of the cloth before the end of the year, allowing me to use it for some playtesting in January. In the meantime, the old Hotz Mat will have to last a little bit longer!
