I have started to tick off the various bits and pieces that I need to do to get the MiG Alley project up and running, the first being some wintery mountain terrain templates for the North Korean / Chinese player to deploy at the start of the game. These have to be suitably mountainous but also flat, so that the flight stands can sit in top of them. This is a bit of a challenge but I think I have developed a workable and simple solution.
I have had a go at a prototype using a laser cut skirmish tray covered in crumpled up brown paper, then glued down with PVA and a smothering of acrylic paste. This ensemble was then spray painted in Halfords camouflage brown, a squirt of grey primer and a couple of heavy bursts of appliance gloss white. It's a bit less mountainous than I was after but it works!
The flight stands will also get the three spray painting approach to match but I probably won't bother with any texturing to save the time and effort. I've also decided not to paint up any more aircraft for MiG Alley at the moment but instead to finish the Football War Ecuadorian and Salvadorian planes for Corsairs and Cavaliers, which should be the next Wings at War ruleset to be published, if Paul at Tumbling Dice gets round to it.
