They look a lot better in the photos! |
I got the 10mm Plastic Soldier Company British in the post today and first impressions aren't great. The proportions of the models and the scaling looks right but the plastic resin stuff they're cast in is pretty nasty, with mushy detail and bendy or snapped off barrels. These were second hand but supposedly new, so it's not a great result, although they are still useable with a little remedial effort. It's put me off 10mm, however, as I was relying on this range to form the bulk of my battlegroup, mainly due to the price tag. I've decided that 6mm is probably the best way forward now, using Scotia or Heroics and Ros 1/300th scale kit, which is still cheap enough to be cost effective without being too small. However, this will have to wait until later in the year, as I have other projects to clear first including Bag the Hun and Strength and Honour, both of which are on the workbench in the next month or two.
I game in 1/285 -> 1/300 scale so I am not versed in this scale, but there appear to be:

and

Of course one vehicle looks like the same cost as at least two GHQ figures or 5 H&R/Scotia/etc. figures, so 1/300 is likely a better choice.
I play happily in 1/300. As I don’t have much space at home I use cms and the equivalent of an 8x6 table. Good fun.
ReplyDeleteWorks well in 6mm!
ReplyDeleteYou should show off the before and after pictures... most of the stuff I see online for them is the "after" as shown above.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that Pendraken has some vehicles that may be useful. (although mostly '60s/70s era kit)
The PSC figures do look better when painted. But I do agree that the detail is quite soft. I prefer the Pendraken figures. Unfortunately they don't do a lot of cold war infantry. They do have the Falkland Island British if this is the right period for you.
ReplyDeleteI've used Pendragon in the past in other periods, they are good. and to be honest never been a fan of the new ultracast.
ReplyDeleteFor that matter... semi unrelated.. not a fan of any of the 3D print offerings either... all those lovely rows of fine lines that ruin the detail especially in smaller scales
