The new People's Edition of AK-47 is due out in a couple of weeks and I've been getting to grips with the key aspects of the rules by reading play test game reports and reviews. It seems as though they've taken the best bits of classic AK-47 and mashed them with the popular bits of AK-47:Reloaded, then sprinkled selected mechanisms from more recent RFCM rules on top.
The general consensus seems to be that this is the best version yet, so as an AK-47 grognard and founder of the AK-47 Facebook group, I really should get stuck in. In fact, I'm thinking of at least one new army and some bespoke terrain building specifically aimed at the new rules, probably as my project for the second half of the year, instead of starting a CoC2 project from scratch?
Have they dumped the countdown to war system and gone back to the simple political charts?
ReplyDeleteI think it's a cross between the two but will have to wait and see.
DeleteI've held off on AK47 waiting to see what happens with this version. Hopefully this will be the definitive edition.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to have ticked a lot of boxes for the play testers
DeleteYes, but all the play testers who stuck with it loved "Reloaded". I dropped out of play testing or commenting on that version fairly quickly when I could see what road it was going down and the designer wasn't interested in my feedback, or at least proceeded with out it. Which is his complete and absolute right, as is mine not to like what finally came out.
DeleteThey are a bit precious about their rules to be frank. Perhaps that explains why Reloaded went down like a lead balloon with classic AK players, myself included. I think the new edition is aimed squarely at resolving that but we'll have to wait and see
DeletePrecious is unfair. You can't write rules by committee and Martin is the man with the driving vision. I've just watched the first video on the PP website and there seem to be a few mechanisms borrowed from PBI in there.
DeleteThat's based more on some of my previous dealings with certain people on the RFCM group. There are plenty of very nice players on the AK FB group who have been brilliant.
