USS Louisiana Scratchbuild |
I set out today to make as many different variants of the Tumbling Dice ASV55 and ASV59 gunboat models as possible, to create a Confederate river flotilla for the Messing about on the River campaign. I haven't tried to make actual vessels but have based the various designs on actual gunboats like the USS Fort Hindman, USS Sybil and USS Queen City, so I think they look reasonably realistic. I converted two ASV59 Sidewheel paddle gunboats and five ASV55 General Stirling Price models, although I used two of the latter together to make a heavy gunboat double ender.
I also scratch built a riverine ironclad based on the CSS Louisiana, with a spare base from another model and some plastic card. I had made the bog standard model of the CSS Nashville from the ASV58 set but it looked a bit feeble, so the CSS Louisiana will be a more impressive monster for the Union to hunt down up the Yazoo. I'm quite pleased with the progress so far but now need to make some more gunboats and barges for the Union flotilla including a scratch built ironclad of some description, perhaps the USS Choctaw, USS Indianola or USS Tuscumbia?
At a bit of a tangent; did you reveal your patent seascape basing method? I have just ordered some ships for Guadalcanal, hence the interest...
