I've worked up a revised record sheet for the SE5a, using the firing mechanisms that I devised to take account of the mixed armament of a drum fed, wing mounted Lewis gun and a cowling mounted, belt fed Vickers gun. I've also changed the ammunition track to allow for the forty seconds of fire for the Lewis gun, spread over the five drums of ammunition that can be carried. The stats are a mash up of the extended list with the fire factors based on the original rules.
Incidentally, when firing the Lewis you use up the seconds of fire available if it's not a full drum, then make up the rest of the seconds from the Vickers. I think this is a much better solution than the standard mechanism in the rules, making the fire power of the SE5a equivalent to other twin gun armed aircraft, but I'll obviously need to play test it to make sure it works in action.
In the old flying Circus SPI game players had to change the drum after each two game turns of firing. I always thought that there should have been an option to continue firing at the single belt fed gun rate until the Lewis gun's drum was renewed, as you have done here. Are these rules still available BTW?
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense. I'm sure that's what would have been done. The rules are available free from the FB group:
